Grow A Girlfriend Novelty Gag

A small compressed figure that swells to about six times its size once you drop it in water. It is a two-quid gag for a stag do or a Secret Santa, and the fun is mostly in watching it slowly get bigger over a day or two.

One size. It arrives small and hard, and takes a day or two fully submerged to reach its full size, so start it well before you want the punchline. It shrinks back down again as it dries out.

Styling it

Use a clear glass or jar so people can see the growing happen, and top the water up as it goes. It works better left on a desk or a bar as a slow joke than handed over and forgotten.

Care

Keep it fully submerged in clean cold water while it grows, and change the water if it goes cloudy. To pack it away, let it dry out slowly at room temperature and it will shrink back. Do not put it in hot water, which will damage the material.
