Go by height rather than by your child's age. These are the maker's own figures and the bands are generous at the top end — the 11-13 years fits up to 154cm. Stand your child against a wall, measure to the top of their head, and pick the band their height falls in. If they are between bands, take the larger one, since costumes go on over normal clothes and October evenings are cold.

Description

The upgraded version of Rumi's Golden look. The top is made to read as a jacket worn over a top rather than a single printed layer, with sequin detailing, a stand collar and a moulded 3D epaulette on the shoulder. It is the closer of the two to the screen version.

Sizing & fit

Sizes are XSmall (age 6), Medium (9-10) and Large (11-13), with no Small in between. These age bands run small, so size up for a tall child or if anything is going underneath. The mock jacket has structure to it, so a size that is too tight will pull at the shoulder seams.

Styling it

Add the purple Rumi wig with the long braid and keep everything else plain. The sequins catch the light on their own, so there is no need for extra jewellery.

Care

Cold hand wash on its own, inside out, and press the water out rather than wringing. Sequins snag on other clothes and shed in a machine. Do not tumble dry, do not bleach, and keep the iron away from the sequins and the epaulette entirely.

What's included?

How do children's sizes work?

Children's costumes are sized by height in centimetres, not by age, because children of the same age vary enormously. Stand your child against a wall, measure to the top of their head, and pick the nearest size up. Remember they will almost certainly be wearing a jumper underneath on a cold October evening.

Can I wash it?

Gently, and by hand. Costumes are made from lightweight polyester with printed and glued details that do not survive a washing machine. Hand wash cold, do not bleach, do not tumble dry and keep the iron away from any printed panels. Spot cleaning is usually enough.

Is this costume fire-safe?

All of our costumes are made to the toy safety standards required for sale in the UK and carry the appropriate labelling. That said, no costume is fireproof. Keep well away from candles, pumpkin lights, open fires and cookers, and never leave a child in a costume unsupervised near a naked flame. If you are lighting a pumpkin, use an LED tealight.

Will it last more than one night?

Yes, with reasonable care. These are proper costumes rather than disposable ones, and most of our customers get two or three Halloweens out of them before children outgrow them. Hang it up rather than leaving it in a bag, and keep any mask or accessory in the original box.

How quickly will my order arrive?

Order before 3pm Monday to Friday and we dispatch the same day. Standard UK delivery is 2-3 working days and free on orders over £40. Next-day delivery is available at checkout up to 3pm. In the week running up to Halloween we recommend ordering by the Monday to be safe — couriers get very busy and we would rather you had it early.

Can I return it if it doesn't fit?

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to send anything back, provided it is unworn and still has its tags and original packaging. Start the return at fancydressclub.co.uk/returns and we will email you a label. For hygiene reasons we cannot accept returns on wigs, fangs, cosmetics, prosthetics or hosiery once the packaging has been opened.
