Go by the centimetre size, not the age. The age band is the manufacturer's own guide and it is printed on the packaging, but it runs young — a child who is 128cm tall is usually seven or eight, whatever the bag says. Stand your child against a wall, measure to the top of their head, and pick the nearest size up. October evenings are cold and most children end up wearing a jumper underneath.

Description

A floor-length reaper robe in mottled grey-black with a jagged, distressed hem, topped with a full pumpkin mask whose eyeholes are hidden in the carved face.

The hood is structured and holds its point rather than flopping, which is what separates this from the flat black robes you see everywhere. The fabric has a textured, weathered print so it reads as something that has been dragged through a graveyard rather than something bought that afternoon.

How do children's sizes work?

Children's costumes are sized by height in centimetres, not by age, because children of the same age vary enormously. Stand your child against a wall, measure to the top of their head, and pick the nearest size up. Remember they will almost certainly be wearing a jumper underneath on a cold October evening.

Can I wash it?

Gently, and by hand. Costumes are made from lightweight polyester with printed and glued details that do not survive a washing machine. Hand wash cold, do not bleach, do not tumble dry and keep the iron away from any printed panels. Spot cleaning is usually enough.

Is this costume fire-safe?

All of our costumes are made to the toy safety standards required for sale in the UK and carry the appropriate labelling. That said, no costume is fireproof. Keep well away from candles, pumpkin lights, open fires and cookers, and never leave a child in a costume unsupervised near a naked flame. If you are lighting a pumpkin, use an LED tealight.

Is this too scary for young children?

This one sits at the frightening end of our range and we would not recommend it for a primary school party or for children who are easily spooked. If you want the theme without the fear factor, look at our classic Halloween range — witches, pumpkins and skeletons get the same reaction without the nightmares.

Will it last more than one night?

Yes, with reasonable care. These are proper costumes rather than disposable ones, and most of our customers get two or three Halloweens out of them before children outgrow them. Hang it up rather than leaving it in a bag, and keep any mask or accessory in the original box.

How quickly will my order arrive?

Order before 3pm Monday to Friday and we dispatch the same day. Standard UK delivery is 2-3 working days and free on orders over £40. Next-day delivery is available at checkout up to 3pm. In the week running up to Halloween we recommend ordering by the Monday to be safe — couriers get very busy and we would rather you had it early.

Can I return it if it doesn't fit?

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to send anything back, provided it is unworn and still has its tags and original packaging. Start the return at fancydressclub.co.uk/returns and we will email you a label. For hygiene reasons we cannot accept returns on wigs, fangs, cosmetics, prosthetics or hosiery once the packaging has been opened.
