This is the shelf where accessories stop being an afterthought. Twenty pounds and up is the point at which a mask holds its own shape and a wig survives more than one night.

Most of it is masks and hair. Venetian demon and devil masks with proper horns, full latex heads including a horse and a seagull, a licensed Freddy Krueger, and wigs like Wednesday Addams and Daenerys Targaryen. There are props too: the Harry Potter broomstick, the Joker's cane and a suede-look cowboy hat. One thing worth knowing before you commit is that full latex heads get warm quickly, so if you are out for a whole evening rather than posing for photos, a Venetian half mask is the more comfortable buy.

What do I actually get for £20 to £35 that I would not get cheaper?
Weight and finish, mostly. Masks at this price are hand-painted or moulded latex rather than thin vacuum-formed plastic, and the wigs have a proper cap and enough fibre to look like hair from more than a few feet away. It is the range where one accessory can carry a whole outfit.

Are the Venetian masks made for adults only?
Yes, they are cut on an adult face shape and tie at the back with ribbon, so they will sit loose on a child. They are half masks, which means you can eat, drink and talk in them, and they will not fog up over an evening.

Do the full latex masks fit over glasses?
The horse and seagull heads have room for slim frames but anything thicker will press. If you need to see clearly all night, go for one of the Venetian masks or the bunny eye mask, which leave the top of your face free.
