Which clown costumes are the frightening ones?
Anything described as a horror, evil or wicked clown. The vintage and circus styles are striped and ruffled rather than sinister, and are the safer choice for a family party.

Do I need a wig?
Strongly recommended. The silhouette of a clown is mostly hair, and a red or red-and-black wig transforms the costume for very little money. It is the single most worthwhile addition here.

Is a clown mask better than make-up?
A mask is faster and more consistent, and several of our sets include one. Make-up is more comfortable over a long evening and lets you eat and drink without removing your face. Both work — it depends how long you are wearing it.
